With decades of experience, we've built up a library of information on the Philippines' most common pests and pathogens, what attracts them, and how to keep them out.

Pathogens

Pathogens are organisms that cause diseases. To thrive and survive, they need a host, such as humans, or any living thing. These organisms use our body's responses to replicate as they keep spreading to new hosts.

The four most common pathogens are Viruses, Bacteria, Fungi, and Parasites. They can be transmitted through contact, or via airborne particles.
Fungi
Millions of fungal species exist but there are about 300 that cause sickness.Fungal cells are protected by a thick cell wall making them difficult to kill.  One of the most dangerous fungi that can affect man is Candida auris as it can enter and infect our bloodstream.
Bacteria
Bacterias are single-celled microorganisms with a variety of shapes and features, and are usually sturdy enough to survive most environments or conditions. Not all bacteria are harmful, but when our immune system is compromised, such as by a virus, bacterial infections arise and can cause other non-harmful bacteria to become pathogenic. Some strains of bacteria can also become resistant to antibiotics, making them very difficult to treat.
Parasites
Parasites are tiny organisms that live in or on a host and feeding from or at the host's expense. They occur anywhere but are more prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions.  There are three types of parasites of medical importance to humans. These are Ectoparasites that feed on human and animals like Mites, Ticks and Bedbugs, Helminths which are worms such as Flukes, Tapeworms and Nematodes.

Schistosomiasis is one of the most devastating tropical parasitic diseases second only to Malaria. It is spread by certain fresh water snails. And there are the Protozoa. Malaria is one of the deadly examples of  the no, 1 deadliest tropical disease in the world that is caused by a protozoan infection of the blood that is transmitted by Malaria Mosquitoes. Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax
Viruses
The rapid replication cycle of viruses and their ability to damage and destroy infected cells make them one of the most feared pathogens. There are also limited medications against viruses when it is already in the host cell, or us humans, so controlling their spread is crucial. Viruses are reputed to be causes of great contagions like Polio, Hepatitis, Ebola, H1N1 and COVID-19. The viral hemorrhagic fever families such as Dengue, Zika, Encephalitis are associated with pests such as Rodents, Mosquitoes, Ticks and other arthropods.
